The New York Giants might well have some explaining to do to the NFL, and they could have tight end Theo Johnson to blame
After a win over the Las Vegas Raiders a week ago, the Giants currently hold the No. 2 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. A loss against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday would ensure that New York remains in that spot.
However, if New York were to beat Dallas, it could fall as far as the No. 7 overall pick.
Meanwhile, Johnson, who has had a breakout sophomore season with 45 catches for 528 yards and five touchdowns, has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Cowboys due to illness.
However…
Despite the illness designation, the Penn State product was shown on the scoreboard sitting courtside during the New York Knicks’ loss to Atlanta Hawks on Friday at Madison Square Garden.
The video showed smiling and waving to the camera. Johnson later reposted a picture taken and posted on social media by a New York Post reporter and responded, “I am not sick.”
Now, there could be few things at play here.
For one, Johnson could actually be sick and it’s just not serious enough to keep him from attending a basketball game if he’s not contagious. Or the Giants could be holding out Johnson to try to limit their chances of upsetting Dallas and accidentally ruing their draft pick.
And lastly, it’s possible that New York doesn’t want Johnson to hit some sort of contract incentive that would force the organization to pay him more money. Although that’s less likely when you consider he’s on a rookie deal.
But it is weird that Johnson made a point to state that he wasn’t sick. And the NFL will almost assuredly want to clear up what happened here.
