Giants needed depth at back end of their defense
On the eve of their first training camp practice, the New York Giants are adding veteran depth at safety. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that K’Von Wallace is signing with the Giants.
Wallace, a fourth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2020 NFL Draft, worked out for the Giants last month during their two-day mandatory minicamp. Wallace has played 71 games with 19 starts for the Eagles, Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans and Seattle Seahawks.
Wallace played 10 games with seven starts for the Titans in 2023, when current Giants defensive coordinator Shane Bowen was in his final year in that role with Tennessee.
The Giants have Jevon Holland and Tyler Nubin at the top of their safety depth chart, with fourth-year man Dane Belton the likely third safety. Wallace joins Anthony Johnson, Raheem Layne and undrafted free agent Makari Paige in a competition for the fourth safety spot. Johnson missed spring practices with what was believed to be a shoulder injury.
A roster move will have to be made to make space for Wallace.
