The New York Giants have shown much more potential since Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo started receiving more opportunities. But Malik Nabers’ season-ending injury limited the Giants’ ceiling. Now that Skattebo has suffered a season-ending injury too, the Giants will need even more help replacing one of their offense’s best playmakers.
Though, Giants general manager Joe Schoen has been hard at work, trying to comb through the weeds for roster upgrades. On Tuesday, that meant working out 12 players, including former Pro Bowl receiver Diontae Johnson.
Johnson may be a Pro Bowl receiver, but the 29-year-old hasn’t been a meaningful contributor since 2023, when he recorded a respectable 717 yards. Johnson’s best season came in 2021, when he recorded a career-high 1,161 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. But he recorded just 375 yards last season and has yet to appear in a game with anyone this year.
The Giants also worked out quarterback Jaren Hall, possibly just so Johnson had someone to catch passes from. Either way, the Giants are identifying options, whether it’s in case of emergency or if they’re just considering changes remains to be seen.
In other moves, the Giants placed Skattebo on season-ending injured reserve. Taking his place on the roster is cornerback Jarrick Bernard-Converse, whom the Giants claimed off waivers from the Browns. Yet, the Giants may still feel like they need to make more additions on offense, and that could happen via trade.
