New York Giants Scared to Lose Draft Pick as Result of NFL Penalty

The New York Giants can’t even get a win without creating more controversy. This past Thursday, Giants rookies Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo enjoyed breakout games that give fans hope that they will be the franchise quarterback and starting running back in New York for many years to come.

Unfortunately, Brian Daboll also opened up a unique can of worms after Dart entered the concussion protocol as the Giants approached a key 4th-and-9. Daboll was visibly very upset with the timing of the league’s neutrally appointed concussion specialist, so he approached the blue tent, where Dart was being evaluated.

Daboll wanted to know how long Dart would need to be evaluated, or if a timeout could buy him just enough time to get his young QB back on the field.

That’s a problem in the NFL’s eyes, and now the team is being investigated by the league.

FOX’s Jay Glazer says the Giants are bracing for a “hefty fine” from the NFL. Meanwhile, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk says the Giants “fear losing a draft pick once the process ends.”

There’s no word on what level of draft pick the Giants will lose for the infraction, but forfeiting any draft picks has to sting for a team that is currently projected to pick eighth in the 2026 NFL Draft.

The NFL has since sent out a memo to all teams to remind them of the league’s concussion protocol and how it relates to the medical tent. That may help other teams, but it may be too late for the Giants to avoid discipline.
