New York Giants rookies, including No. 3 overall pick Abdul Carter and No. 25 overall pick Jaxson Dart, will get their first taste of NFL action against another team on Saturday when the Giants open their preseason against the Buffalo Bills.

Carter, the edge defender who has drawn raves from teammates throughout training camp, is “excited” for game action. Even if it doesn’t count.

“My last game was, shoot, six months ago, something like that,” Carter said. “So, it’s cool to come out here, get a routine down, play football again. I’m excited.”

Carter isn’t going to hold back, even though the results don’t matter.

“I’m putting it all on film. I’m going out there, I’m playing, I’m doing what I do best,” Carter said. “I’m also doing what my coach asked me to do, but at the same time, just play my game.”

Many Bills starters will play, but quarterback Josh Allen will not.

“It doesn’t matter who’s playing for me,” Carter said.

Carter is learning that the details matter at the NFL level.

“Obviously, college is detail, but I feel like at the NFL, just a higher level of detail I have got to be focused on,” he said. “So, I’d probably say that’s the biggest difference.”

Carter and his fellow rookies will learn a little bit more about the league they are entering on Saturday afternoon. We may also learn if he can begin to back up the hype.
