The New York Giants are reportedly considering a move that could significantly impact Jaxson Dart and shake the NFL.
While Dart’s performances in his rookie season suggest he should be the team’s franchise player, they might not be convinced.
Dart’s emergence has been one of the few positives for NY this season, and the prospect of getting the No. 1 pick is also one of them. Their 34-10 dismantling of the Las Vegas Raiders came with unintended consequences. But there’s still one more game left to play, and who knows?
According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, the Giants will assess all their options and even evaluate a move for Fernando Mendoza if they get the first-overall pick.
The Indiana quarterback is the new Heisman Trophy winner following his exploits with the Hoosiers this season. He’s likely to be the first player off the board come April.
“The Giants could have the No 1 pick. Expect them to evaluate all options, including looking at Fernando Mendonza before they make a decision on how they are going to proceed, if they have this pick,” Rapoport said on NFL Network on Sunday.

This is all unexpected. The Giants will land a high pick no matter how Week 18 plays out, but it’s hard to imagine anyone pegging them as quarterback-needy.
They’re thought to be looking to build around Dart by either drafting or trading for assets, not bringing in competition.
Drafting someone like Mendoza would definitely come as a shocker.
On one hand, it might be considered optimal to have two young QBs competing for the starting job. But drafting another signal-caller after the year Jaxson Dart just had would likely shatter his confidence.
The Giants are in for a new coach, which would likely factor into their draft pick decision. Dart previously revealed that a top college coach texted him about the vacancy.
It’s going to be an interesting time for the organization on multiple fronts.
