The New York Giants are on the field this week as they prep for the 2025 NFL season. Fall practice has gotten underway, providing fans and media access to the team.
The Giants are one of many pro franchises choosing to limit training camp access in an attempt to keep some of their secrets safe. That policy is now being wrongfully scrutinized.
The NFL’s media access policy calls for “all daily practices [to] be open in their entirety to local media.” Teams, however, do have the option to “limit videotaping or photographing of certain portions of practices.”
New York chose to enforce that right this offseason.

Those in attendance took note of signage surrounding the playing field on Thursday. Some suggested that the warnings were put up in response to a shaky debut showing by first-round NFL Draft pick Jaxson Dart.
Dart was selected with the 25th overall pick. New York hopes he’ll be the signal caller of the future.
Head coach Brian Daboll was blown away by the passer in the pre-draft interview process. He passed every grueling test the Giants threw his way.
Unfortunately, he failed in the eyes of many onlookers in his first official practice.

He threw a pick-six early on in the session. While it was far from his only pass of the day, the clip immediately went viral online.
No. The signs have been there since the start of training camp. The internet theory was quickly debunked by social media users.
The actual reasoning likely stems from attempts to protect gameplan secrets. The in 11-on-11 drills, like the one we saw earlier with Dart, can reveal offensive or defensive schemes that a team may not want public.
Competitive advantage is key, and with a play caller like Daboll leading the charge, it’s more than reasonable to believe he’d want to keep some of his formations under wraps less than two months out from the season opener.
While many were eager to see Dart perform on the field, the rookie’s likely not going to take the first snap of the 2025 NFL season.
New York acquired Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in the offseason. That duo combines for more than two decades of experience.
Jaxson Dart should have an opportunity to sit back and learn for at least a season before being thrust into the spotlight. His viral interception is largely insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
