Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart has revitalized a moribund New York Giants franchise since taking over the starting job from Russell Wilson. In Dart’s first three games, he has beaten Jim Harbaugh’s Los Angeles Chargers and the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.
But it nearly didn’t happen as other teams coveted him in the 2025 NFL Draft.
To get their quarterback of the future, the Giants traded back into the first round to select the Ole Miss product 25th overall. And it’s paid off.
Dart has completed 65.9% of his passes for 508 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions. He’s also rushed 32 times for 167 yards and two scores.
Head coach Brian Daboll and the Giants nearly missed out on Dart as several other teams were interested in him, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.
“The Giants also knew they weren’t alone. The Saints, Steelers and Browns had all shown interest. New York tried to play it cool, but the Giants also knew Daboll’s personality — fiery, competitive, intense and sometimes a little unhinged — was a perfect match for Dart’s energy,” Russini reports.
The Giants pulled the trigger and haven’t looked back.
Dart has brought an excitement back to a fan base that hasn’t seen it in years. The Giants are 2-1 with Dart under center, and for the first time in recent memory, fans have a reason to believe in their team’s future.
