The New York Giants‘ offense is considerably better in 2025 than it was in 2024. They’re averaging 21.9 points per game, which is a 5.8 PPG improvement over last season. Their leap in production makes one wonder how much better the Giants’ scoring attack would be if Malik Nabers didn’t suffer a season-ending injury in Week 4, causing him to miss the past three games.
Nevertheless, first-round rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart has naturally had no choice but to soldier on without his best pass-catcher. Yet, the Giants want to maximize their newfound star QB’s potential and further his development. The best way to do that may be by providing him with a more polished group of pass-catchers (something the team failed to do in the Daniel Jones era).
Recently, ESPN’s Matt Bowen and Jeremy Fowler came up with a list of the best NFL trade candidates. Ranked at No. 2 was Miami Dolphins receiver Jaylen Waddle. When it came time to list the best team fits, only the Pittsburgh Steelers and Giants were named. The Steelers are in the AFC, and the Dolphins may not want to trade their best healthy pass-catcher to an in-conference foe.
However, the Giants could present a better opportunity because, unlike the Steelers, they’re not 4-2. The Giants are only 2-5, and there’s no guarantee that trading for Waddle would lead to a better record in the end. Ultimately, that means the Dolphins could receive a much higher draft pick by trading Waddle to New York rather than Pittsburgh, and there’s a less likely chance of facing him in the future.
Waddle came into the NFL as the sixth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and he quickly lived up to expectations by posting three consecutive seasons with over 1,000 yards. He’s on pace for 984 yards this season, but perhaps a trade to a Giants team in need of more weapons could lead to a production spike.
