Gap between top two quarterbacks narrows

Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward, the top two quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft class, continue this week to be the players overwhelmingly selected most often for the New York Giants in mock drafts.

The idea that Ward could be the choice for the Giants, though, seems to be growing. This week, Sanders is the choice in 23 of 56 mock drafts (41.1%). Ward is the choice in 19 (33.9%). That is the closest gap between the two quarterbacks in the last several iterations of our tracker.

Here is what Todd McShay of The Ringer said in picking Ward over Sanders:

Ward needs a coach like Daboll to drive home the importance of consistent footwork, staying on schedule, and playing within the confines of the offense.

Ward’s arm talent, creativity, and ability to create out of structure are unparalleled in this draft class. He’s also a demanding leader who holds himself and his teammates to a high standard, which is exactly what this Giants organization needs at the quarterback position.

Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports has the Giants moving up to No. 2 to select Ward in a trade with the Cleveland Browns. He wrote:

The Giants make no mistake about it, moving up one spot to ensure they get Ward to be their quarterback of the future.
