New York Giants Make John Harbaugh One of NFL’s Highest-Paid Coaches

When the New York Giants fired Brian Daboll after a 2-8 start, they didn’t know who their next head coach would be. They definitely couldn’t have predicted it being someone as established as John Harbaugh.

A former Super Bowl winner, with a win-rate of 61.4%, who ranks 14th on the NFL’s all-time coaching wins list? Few coaches have a better or more proven track record.

But it wasn’t easy to get the potential future Hall of Fame coach. After all, there were nine NFL head coaching vacancies to begin with. Several teams tried hiring him too.

But Harbaugh only met with the Giants and Falcons. He was set to meet with others, such as the Tennessee Titans. Only, the Giants stepped forward with an offer too good to refuse.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Giants agreed to pay Harbaugh a five-year contract worth nearly $100 million in total value. That makes Harbaugh one of the NFL’s highest-paid coaches of all-time.

Though, since coaching contracts are rarely revealed to the public (which is completely opposite to how player contracts are handled), it’s unknown just how high Harbaugh’s salary ranks among his peers. Still, teams are slowly understanding the value of having a great coach, and it’s clear the Giants had no issues paying the price.

Considering Harbaugh has only lost fewer than eight games once across 18 seasons, the Giants are sending a strong message to their fanbase. No longer will the Giants be selecting in the top ten; they’ll be jockeying for playoff positioning, but there’s some roster work to do in New York first.
