Another tough season has brought changes to the New York Giants. First came the firing of head coach Brian Daboll after he led the team to a 2-8 start and a 20-40-1 record after parts of four seasons.
Now, the Giants are making another coaching change.
This time around, the Giants have fired second-year defensive coordinator Shane Bowen. The change comes after blowing yet another 10-point lead on Sunday, this time to the Detroit Lions.
The Giants have blown five fourth-quarter leads of 10 or more points this season. That’s tied for the most blown leads of double digits in NFL history for a single season. The Giants also rank 30th in points allowed, at an average of 27.8 points per game,
They’re also ranking dead last in rushing yards allowed and yards per carry at 5.9 YPC. Opponents have rushed for 200 or more yards on three separate occasions against the Giants this season, including on Sunday when the Lions went off for 234 yards on the ground.
New York has already named a replacement defensive coordinator. Though, ESPN’s team insider Jordan Raanan reports they’ve named outside linebackers coach Charlie Bullen as the interim coordinator/defensive playcaller. He brings 18 seasons of coaching experience, 12 of which are in the NFL. He’s in his second season as the team’s outside linebackers coach.
