Sometimes, all it takes is one throw to light up the internet. That’s exactly what happened when Jaxson Dart, the New York Giants’ rookie quarterback, tossed a pick-six during his first training camp session. The clip exploded online. And then the real problem began.

Fans showed up the next day only to find warning signs around the field, “No Videotaping.” Suddenly, the narrative shifted. Were the Giants hiding their rookie? Was the team shielding Dart from more viral embarrassment?

Not completely. But that didn’t stop the speculation from spiraling.

Fans Point Fingers At Giants After Practice Footage Ban

The Giants didn’t just wake up and slap signs around the practice field after Dart’s interception. They had already put limits on media filming at the start of camp. Those rules are totally legal under the NFL’s access policy, which allows teams to block videotaping of certain practice segments.

Still, the timing didn’t help.

The viral clip, shared by Bleacher Report, showed Dart’s misread in 11-on-11 drills. It was his first real test in a Giants uniform. And while he had plenty of other reps, the internet grabbed the worst one and ran with it.

That’s football in 2025.

Critics online claimed the new media restrictions were a direct response to Dart’s pick. Giants fans, eager for transparency during this rebuild, weren’t thrilled.

But others pushed back. Reporters and fans at camp pointed out that the no-filming rule had been in place since the very first practice. In fact, the NFL itself allows teams to control what gets filmed during certain drills, especially full-team ones like 11-on-11.

So, what’s the real reason?

Most signs point to strategy. Head coach Brian Daboll, known for his creative playcalling, likely wants to keep formations and schemes under wraps. Especially with two months to go before Week 1.

And let’s not forget, Dart probably won’t even be under center from the opening day. The Giants brought in Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston this offseason. That gives Dart time to sit, learn, and stay out of the media attention for now.
