The Miami Dolphins are thought to be closing in on their new head coach after firing Mike McDaniel. Jeff Haffley has reportedly emerged as the top candidate.

Haffley is currently the Green Bay Packers’ defensive coordinator, but could create a vacancy within the franchise.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero is reporting that Haffley has emerged as a frontrunner, and more interviews have been scheduled with the Dolphins.

According to Pelissero, four other teams are interested in Hafley. However, he is now the candidate most likely to be hired in Miami.

“Packers DC Jeff Hafley has emerged as a frontrunner for the Dolphins head coaching job, per sources,” Pelissero reported on Saturday.

“No final decisions made. More interviews are scheduled. Four other teams have requested second interviews with Hafley. But he appears to be the leading candidate in Miami.”

Jeff Hafley Has A Strong Link To Miami

Jeff Hafley worked with new Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan for two years in Green Bay. The latter had spent many years with the Packers.

As for his credentials, Hafley’s defensive tactics have been impressive over the past two seasons. The Packers ranked sixth in points and fifth in yards allowed in 2024. They dropped to 11th and 12th in these categories this season. But they also lost Micah Parsons to a season-ending knee injury in mid-December.

The Packers clinched a playoff spot without Parsons and seemed well on their way to a Wild Card win against the Chicago Bears. Shockingly but not-so-shockingly, given that it was Chicago, they suffered a fourth-quarter collapse and may also lose their DC to Miami.
