The Washington Commanders unveiled their new alternate jerseys for the upcoming season earlier this month.

The team celebrated the franchise’s 93rd anniversary by unveiling a new alternate helmet and uniform inspired by their 1979-2019 road design, including three Super Bowl victories (XVII, XXII, and XXVI).

The Washington NFL franchise has undergone two separate yet polarizing rebrands over the last six years. The Redskins moniker was ditched in 2020 for “Washington Football Team,” and then “Football Team” was replaced in 2022 with Commanders.

There was a ton of backlash towards the franchise for years to get rid of the “Redskins” name.

Now, that it has been changed, there is even more backlash for the franchise to change it back.

A recent study was conducted to determine how the public feels about the Washington Commanders possibly changing their name back to the Redskins.

The results were shocking.

It showed that 90% of Native Americans are “NOT OFFENDED” by the Washington Redskins name. In fact, a large majority of Native Americans were “proud” to see an NFL team with the Redskins title honoring their Chief John Two Guns White Calf.

Donald Trump Threatens The Washington Commanders

President Donald Trump escalated his call on Sunday for the Washington Commanders to change their name back to the “Redskins.”

He even threatened to restrict the NFL team’s stadium deal.

“I may put a restriction on them that if they don’t change the name back to the original ‘Washington Redskins,’ and get rid of the ridiculous moniker, ‘Washington Commanders,’ I won’t make a deal for them to build a Stadium in Washington. The Team would be much more valuable, and the Deal would be more exciting for everyone,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The Commanders aren’t the only team moniker Trump wants reverted.

Trump also put pressure on the Cleveland Guardians to change their name back to the “Indians,” claiming that the “Indian people” want the Guardians to be the “Indians” yet again.
