One of the Pittsburgh Steelers newest weapons has been named a candidate for the 2025 NFL Offensive Player of the Year.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have added several new weapons on offense this offseason, and one has been named a NFL Offensive Player of the Year candidate for the 2025 NFL season.
Pro Football Network believes new Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf has the best chance to win the award.
“After six strong seasons in Seattle, DK Metcalf finds himself the focal point of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense,” PFN writes. “Metcalf fell just short of 1,000 receiving yards last year, but he was competing with Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Tyler Lockett for touches. He faces a less crowded wide receiver room in Pittsburgh and could dominate the target share.”
Metcalf is undoubtedly Pittsburgh’s No. 1 wide receiver, especially after the team traded away George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys last month. After Metcalf, wide receivers Calvin Austin III, Robert Woods and Roman Wilson would be the next men up.
The 27-year-old has also never had less than 900 receiving yards and five touchdowns in a season. Last year, he recorded 66 catches for 992 yards and five touchdowns.
What the Steelers gave up to acquire Metcalf also hints they plan to feature him in their offense. In March, they sent a 2025 second-round draft pick to the Seahawks and then gave him a new five-year, $150 million deal.
Metcalf is teaming up with four-time NFL MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers, too. The 41-year-old’s best football is behind him, but if he can squeeze out whatever good ball he has left, Metcalf could be in store for his best season yet.
Since being drafted in the second round (No. 64 overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft, Metcalf has registered 438 receptions for 6,324 yards and 48 touchdowns.
