The Pittsburgh Steelers have gotten a massive upgrade with one of the newest additions to their coaching staff.
The Pittsburgh Steelers hired James Campen to be their new offensive line coach this offseason, and early indications point toward it potentially paying off big-time.
Former NFL offensive lineman and current analyst Brian Baldinger thinks Campen is a massive upgrade for the Steelers offensive line room.
“It seems like it’s a pretty clean slate with what Mike McCarthy’s done,” Baldinger said on The Daily Flock podcast. “The offensive line coach is infinitely better than what they had. I think the coaching staff is better than what they had. They have better targets. The offense should be better.”
Campen is bringing a ton of coaching experience to Pittsburgh. He began his coaching career with the Green Bay Packers, serving as their assistant offensive line coach from 2004-06.
In 2007, Campen was promoted to offensive line coach, a role he held for over a decade (2007-18) in Green Bay.
Campen then had stints with the Cleveland Browns (2019), Los Angeles Chargers (2020), Houston Texans (2021) and Carolina Panthers (2022-23) before joining the Steelers this offseason.
So, nobody seems to be questioning Campen’s expertise that he’s bringing to Pittsburgh’s young offensive line room.
Baldinger does, however, think the success of the unit will be judged upon keeping 42-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers healthy in 2026.
“It all hinges, in Pittsburgh, on Aaron,” Baldinger continued. “Can he stay healthy? Is he just gonna try and get rid of the ball in less than two seconds? It’s gonna come out fast. He doesn’t want to get hit anymore. They have continued to try to bolster the offensive line, not just for him, but to run the ball better than they have.”
