The Pittsburgh Steelers’ newest addition to their offensive line is ready to step in as soon as they need him.

The Pittsburgh Steelers just signed veteran offensive lineman Andrus Peat to a one-year deal, but he is ready to be thrown right into the fire.

Peat, 31, knows he is not the typical late offseason addition as a 10-year NFL vet and three-time Pro Bowler and thinks he has plenty of good football left in him.

“I feel like I have a lot left,” Peat said. “I feel great, feel healthy, so I’m ready to go.”

The Steelers added Peat to the mix because of recent injuries at the position. Backup offensive tackle Calvin Anderson has been out with a lower-body soft tissue injury and starting left tackle Broderick Jones just recently returned from a groin injury. Rookie Gareth Warren has also been banged up with an unspecified leg injury.

So Peat may get his wish with Pittsburgh’s first preseason game just around the corner. He has the versatility to receive extended playing time, too.

Peat, a 6-foot-7, 313-pound lineman, started his NFL career as a left guard but moved to primarily playing tackle in 2016. He then went back to guard for most of the rest of his career, before shifting back to tackle in 2023.

While Peat has played multiple positions on the offensive line, they have mostly come on the left side. He is more than happy to add the right side to his repertoire if Pittsburgh needs him to, though.

“It’s definitely something you gotta work on, especially if you’ve played there your whole career,” Peat said. “But I feel like if I needed to, I could play on the right.”

Peat was a first-round pick of the New Orleans Saints in the 2015 NFL Draft. He spent the first nine years of his NFL career with the Saints before joining the Las Vegas Raiders for the 2024 season.

Now Peat hopes the Steelers can be the final stop of his NFL career.

“It’s a part of football, especially going to a new organization,” Peat said. “I don’t take this opportunity for granted, so I’m gonna work my way up and keep working.”
