The Steelers acquired Ramsey as part of their blockbuster trade with the Miami Dolphins this offseason. Pittsburgh also received Pro Bowl tight end Jonnu Smith and a seventh-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft in exchange for three-time All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a fifth-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
Ramsey, 30, is entering his 10th season in the NFL but proved to still have plenty of good football left in him in 2024 while recording 60 tackles, one sack, two interceptions and 11 passes defensed.
Pittsburgh is hoping it continues to get that type of production from Ramsey after it also gave him a raise in 2025, increasing his salary to $26.6 million.
Some have questioned if that will be the case, but the Steelers believe Ramsey is going to age well. In fact, they see him a very similar light to that of Hall of Fame defensive back Rod Woodson, who played 17 seasons in NFL.
“This is a case-by-case situation where a player like Jalen Ramsey just happened to be available where they feel like he gives them more flexibility than what they had with Minkah Fitzpatrick,” ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler said. “He can play slot cornerback. He can play safety, if you need him to do that. They see shades of Rod Woodson.”
Ramsey has appeared in 135 games, starting 134 of them. He has 534 tackles, three sacks, seven forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, 24 interceptions, 108 passes defensed and one touchdown in his NFL career.
