A new report reveals surprising details about the disrespectful way the Baltimore Ravens informed legendary coach John Harbaugh that his services were no longer required.
While Brian Billick led the Ravens to their first Super Bowl title in 2001, and he holds a special place in the hearts of fans, there is no doubt that Harbaugh is the greatest coach in team history. He has 100 more wins than Billick. Has a .614 career win percentage, 13 playoff wins, and a Super Bowl title of his own.
However, this past season was a difficult one for the team. After winning 10, 13, and 12 games the previous three seasons, the Ravens went 8-9 in 2025-26 and saw their season come to a heartbreaking conclusion when they missed a game-winning field goal that would have sent them to the playoffs in the final week of the season.
There had been rumblings that Baltimore might move on from Harbaugh this year, but most felt their performance was understandable given the numerous injuries to many of their key players throughout the season.
However, to the surprise of many, including players inside the organization, the Ravens fired John Harbaugh earlier this week. Considering his importance to the organization over the last 18 years, one would assume the team’s management would handle such a decision with great respect and care. Yet that was not the case.
According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, “Harbaugh was fired by owner Steve Bisciotti in a phone call while the coach was driving from the team facility to his Baltimore County home.”
The final decision reportedly came after the coach met with general manager Eric DeCosta, executive vice president Ozzie Newsome, and team president Sashi Brown on Monday. However, according to a source, after Harbaugh laid out his plans for the upcoming season, his future remained “unsettled.”
Nevertheless, Russini claims “there were certainly people in the building advocating for Harbaugh’s return, and there was momentum in that direction.”
In the end, after 18 memorable seasons that included many trips to the playoffs, the Ravens showed John Harbaugh a lot of disrespect and fired him in a phone call on his way home this Tuesday.
