A new report provides fascinating details on a potential Matthew Stafford blockbuster trade, including the Los Angeles Rams’ asking price.

The 37-year-old Matthew Stafford, who led the Rams to a surprising NFC West division crown in 2024, is signed through the 2026 season. He wouldn’t immediately commit to returning for 2025, but it has since been confirmed by reporters that the No. 1 pick of 2009 will come back for his 17th season.

Stafford’s name popped up in trade rumors ahead of Super Bowl 59, and the Rams haven’t publicly indicated that they plan to move forward with him. The New York Giants have widely been linked to Stafford, so what might it cost to acquire the Super Bowl 56 champion?

Speaking on the latest edition of “The Herd with Colin Cowherd”, the Fox Sports analyst shared two compelling scoops on the Stafford trade front. He said the Rams would want the No. 3 pick from the Giants.

Additionally, Cowherd reports that the organization isn’t happy with Matt’s wife, Kelly Stafford, making public comments about the team’s operations. Kelly questioned the decision for the Rams to move on from Cooper Kupp on her podcast.

“The Rams like Matt Stafford but they’re tiring of the constant quarterback talk, his wife saying things publicly. They’re not real happy with Cooper Kupp going public with something they tried to keep quiet…

Meanwhile the Giants do not like the quarterback (draft) class, and Brian Daboll, the head coach, and Joe Schoen, the GM, they’ve gotta win or they’ll be fired by Thanksgiving. So they are going to make a move, I believe, on Matt Stafford…

The Rams want that No. 3 pick in the draft…they want to take that pick, move down and get more picks…so they have extra picks for next year when they have to move up to get a quarterback.”

Cowherd then made the case for the Rams to go after Aaron Rodgers, who won’t be returning to the New York Jets in 2025. It remains to be seen if the Jets will trade the four-time MVP or outright release him.

Matthew Stafford Is Still Playing At A High Level

Despite questions about his health and age, Stafford continued to produce at a high level in 2024. Even without top wideouts Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua for large stretches of the season, Stafford completed 65.8 percent of pass attempts for 3,762 yards, 20 touchdowns and just eight interceptions.
