A concerning update has emerged on Washington Commanders star wide receiver Terry McLaurin with organized team activities (OTAs) underway.
According to a report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Terry McLaurin was a no-show for Wednesday’s practice. Schultz noted that the 29-year-old wideout was previously “a full participant.”
McLaurin has one season remaining on the three-year, $68.2 million extension he signed in the 2022 offseason. It’s common for NFL players to hold out and skip OTAs, minicamp, training camp and preseason if they’re seeking a new contract.
So we’ll see where this goes, but it raises some concern if you’re a Commanders fan.
#Commanders All-Pro WR Terry McLaurin was not at practice today as offseason workouts continue. He had been a full participant previously and is entering the final year of his contract.

McLaurin has been a model of consistency since entering the NFL in 2019, recording 58 receptions for 919 yards and seven scores as a rookie. He has exceeded the 70-catch and 1,000-yard marks every year since, posting a career-high 13 touchdown receptions last season.
Terry McLaurin played a vital role in the Commanders’ Cinderella 2024 season, led by rookie phenom and quarterback Jayden Daniels. The duo led Washington to a 12-5 record and the franchise’s first playoff win in 19 years, followed by a surprise trip to the NFC Championship Game. There, they were blown out by the eventual Super Bowl champion and NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles.
“Scary Terry” added 14 receptions for 227 yards and three touchdowns in Washington’s three postseason games. That included a seven-catch, 89-yard outburst in the Commmanders’ Wild Card Round win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
If McLaurin’s absence from practice is contract-related, the Commanders should sit down with him as soon as possible and work out an extension. There is no need to drag on a potential distraction when they have championship aspirations in front of them.
McLaurin was loyal to the Commanders when they were among football’s worst teams, so his asking price on a new deal should be reasonable now that they’re in title contention.
