We made it. The long, painful offseason is over, and Detroit Lions football is back. To begin the 2025 season, the Lions head towards Wisconsin for a matchup with their divisional rival, the Green Bay Packers. And to break down America’s Game of the Week—myself, Meko Scott, and Brandon Knapp recorded the first installment of our new weekly preview podcast, “Before the Roar.”
We jump into how the Lions can take advantage of Green Bay on both sides of the ball, including weighing in on how the Lions’ new-look offensive line should hold up against a talented Packers’ front. Can guards Christian Mahogany and Tate Ratledge hit the ground running in their first seasons as full-time starters?
On the defensive side of the ball for Detroit, a ton of eyes will be fixated on star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, who is playing in his first game since breaking his leg during a win over the Dallas Cowboys early in the 2024 season. Can he and the rest of the Lions defense prove early on that they are the championship-caliber unit that many around the team believe they are?
After that, we discuss how important it will be to limit Packers running back Josh Jacobs’ production on the ground, as well as who we think the X-factors will be for Detroit on either side of the ball. We know the Lions prioritize stopping their opponent’s running game, but will that be enough to make Green Bay one dimensional on Sunday?
