Not much has gone right in Kellen Moore’s first season as the New Orleans Saints‘ head coach. Sitting at 2-9, they’re in position to land the third overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, which could bring a brighter future.
But the Saints still have eight more games left to play this season, and they want to maximize the opportunities they have. After kicker Blake Grupe missed two kicks on Sunday, the Saints are evaluating the kicker position again.
One of the kickers the Saints are working out is five-time All-Pro Justin Tucker. The 36-year-old recently became eligible to play after serving his 10-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy following multiple allegations of sexually inappropriate behavior.
Grupe is in his third season with the team, but he’s made just 69.2% of his kicks. That’s a sharp downturn from last season, when he drilled 87.1% of his kicks.
The Saints are also working out former Browns, Commanders, and Bengals kicker Cade York, who has a 73.3% accuracy rate on field goals. York, 24, was the Browns’ fourth-round pick in 2022. They cut him after one season after he made just 24-of-32 field goals and 35-of-37 extra points.
Meanwhile, Tucker has an accuracy rate of 89.1%. This is the first opportunity Tucker has received since serving his suspension. He’s spent the entirety of his 13-year career with the Baltimore Ravens, helping them win a Super Bowl and earning seven trips to the Pro Bowl.
