A remake of a classic, “The Naked Gun” poked fun at the Browns

Far from a cinephile site, we know a classic movie or two. Whether they are classics because of their high-quality presentations, “cult classics” for their quirky, unorthodox ways or classics because it had never been done before, especially in the humor category, a classic is a classic.

“The Naked Gun” with Leslie Nielsen might have fit all three of those categories. A trilogy, the franchise gave us “From the Files of Police Squad” in 1988, “The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear” in 1991 and “Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult” in 1994.

Now, some 30 years later, Liam Neeson will take on the role of Detective Frank Drebin’s son, Detective Frank Drebin Jr., in “The Naked Gun,” which will be released on August 1st with this not-so-subtle job at our Cleveland Browns:

An easy joke to be made at the Browns expense and, generally, well earned by the team’s performance on the field, especially in 2024. It will take a lot of winning before Cleveland’s franchise is no longer on the receiving end of these jokes.

It does beg the question, however, which team would replace the Browns if they ever turn things around and become a winning franchise? Who is second place right now on the bad side of the ledger?
