New England Patriots Predicted to Trade $58 Million Star at Deadline

The New England Patriots have been one of the surprise teams in the NFL as head coach Mike Vrabel and quarterback Drake Maye have led the team to a first-place 6-2 record in the AFC East through Week 8. But despite their success, they’re predicted to part ways with a $58 million star at the trade deadline.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter predicts the Patriots will move safety Kyle Dugger just one year after he signed a four-year, $58 million extension.

“The New England Patriots have been open to moving off their former franchise, or transition, safety Kyle Dugger. We’ll see if that happens. I would bet he’s no longer a Patriot by the time the trade deadline comes around on Tuesday, Nov. 4,” Schefter said.

One week ahead of the NFL trade deadline, some intel from around the league:

Dugger’s Diminished Role

Dugger has seen his time on the field plummet in 2025. Over the previous two years, the former 2020 second-round pick played 98% and 90% of the snaps, respectively. This season, however, he’s been on the field for just 44% of New England’s defensive snaps.

The numbers explain why. According to Pro Football Focus, Dugger has allowed six receptions on seven targets for 78 yards with 26 yards after the catch while surrendering a 113.6 passer rating. He’s also missed two tackles while recording zero pass breakups or interceptions.

Dugger is making $9.75 million this season and is owed $10.75 million in 2026.

In 81 games across six seasons with the Patriots, Dugger has recorded nine interceptions, two pick-sixes, two fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles, 24 pass breakups and 3.5 sacks.
