New details have emerged in the Pittsburgh Steelers trade with the New England Patriots for veteran safety Kyle Dugger.
The trade was finalized on the NFL transactions page for Thursday. The Steelers sent their 2026 sixth-round to the Patriots, and in return, they got a 2026 seventh-round pick from New England — details that had been previously reported.
But what went unreported was that the Patriots actually sent the Steelers the New Orleans Saints’ seventh-round pick, not their own.
The Saints traded their seventh-rounder to New England in March for defensive tackle Devin Godchaux, giving the Patriots a pair of seventh-rounders.
With New Orleans currently tied for the worst record in the NFL at 1-7, and the Patriots leading the AFC East at 6-2, that could be a difference of about 25 picks.
With the Steelers trading their sixth and getting back New Orleans’ seventh, right now that is only a trade down of 20 selections. If the season ended today, the Steelers would have the No. 19 pick, and the Saints the No. 1 selection.
There is also a condition on the pick coming from New England, but the specific details of that have not been reported.
