The contract details have been revealed for the new extension for Pittsburgh Steelers strong safety DeShon Elliott.
Elliott signed a two-year extension, keeping him in Pittsburgh through 2027, that was initially reported as being worth an additional $12.5 million.
Now, we have the specific details, thanks to Over the Cap. Elliott had been set to earn $3 million for the Steelers in 2025, with $750,000 his deferred signing bonus causing his cap hit to check in at $3.75 million.
Now, he has a new $6 million signing bonus, and his base salary has been reduced to $1.17 million for 2025. He will earn $7.17 million this season, and that is the only fully guaranteed money on the new deal.
Elliott will have a $2.04 million roster bonus due next March and earn $2.04 million in salary in 2026, and then have a $2.125 million roster bonus in March of 2027, with a matching salary that season.
The Steelers could cut Elliott any time after the 2025 season, though he would incur $4 million in dead cap hit if done so this offseason — an unlikely scenario, at any rate.
The new contract will see Elliott’s cap hit raise minimally in 2025, from $3.75 million to $3.92 million. He will carry cap hits of $6.08 million in 2026 and $6.25 million in 2027.
Despite the strong season and the raise, Elliott’s deal won’t break the bank for the Steelers. His $6.25 million average annual value on the new money will make him the 30th-highest paid safety in the NFL.
