Future Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Drew Brees will make his return to NFL broadcasting this season, at least for one game.

According to Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, Netflix has hired Drew Brees as an analyst for one of its two 2025 Christmas Day games. Brees will be in the booth for either the Washington Commanders-Dallas Cowboys showdown or the Detroit Lions-Minnesota Vikings contest.

After retiring from football in 2021, NBC hired Drew Brees as an analyst for their “Football Night in America” program. Brees’ performance wasn’t well-received by NBC executives, and the New Orleans Saints legend left the network after just one year.

The play-by-play commentators for Netflix’s two Christmas Day games haven’t been announced yet. But Marchand reports that CBS’ Nate Burleson will be part of the coverage, with colleague Matt Ryan also “under heavy consideration.”

CBS’ Ian Eagle called the Kansas City Chiefs-Pittsburgh Steelers Christmas Day game on Netflix last year alongside Burleson and JJ Watt. Ian’s son, Noah Eagle for NBC Sports, called the Houston Texans-Baltimore Ravens Christmas game with Greg Olsen.

The 46-year-old Drew Brees was a special guest on ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown” last week ahead of the Miami Dolphins-Los Angeles Rams prime-time game. If he does well in the broadcast booth on Christmas, perhaps Brees will get another chance at a full-time analyst position.

Drew Brees Is Eligible For The Hall Of Fame In 2026

As hard as it is to believe, it’s already been almost five years since Brees began his final NFL season. He retired after the 2020 season, having dealt with numerous injuries in a frustrating season that ended with a Divisional Round loss at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Five years removed from his final snap, Brees will be eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame class next year.
