The Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears meet this Saturday again, and bad weather is expected to be part of the game. The National Weather Service issued an alert as conditions around Soldier Field continue to change before kickoff.

Chicago is in for a tough night. The forecast includes snow showers, strong winds, and freezing temperatures. Players and coaches are getting ready for a sloppy, cold game.

The National Weather Service in Chicago warned of changing conditions throughout the day. “A rain/snow mix will overspread the area this morning, and may change over to wet snow for a time over far northern IL,” the agency said***. “Blustery snow showers arrive toward evening and persist area-wide overnight.”***

The game begins at 8 p.m. ET on Prime Video. By that time, the cold and snow are expected to be fully set in.

Weather Can Affect The Packers vs. Bears Rivalry

Wind could matter more than snow on Saturday night. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported gusts between 20 and 30 mph during the game. That wind will make the cold feel even worse.

Todd Kluber of NWS Chicago explained what fans and players should expect. “With the wind and the slightly falling temperatures, we’re looking at wind-chill values there in the mid- to upper teens through most of the evening hours,” Kluber said.

Both teams are used to playing in these weather conditions. They already faced each other twice this season. Green Bay won the first matchup on December 7 at Lambeau Field. Jordan Love threw for 234 yards and three touchdowns in a 28-21 win.

Chicago responded later in the month. Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams led the Bears to an overtime win. He ended the game with a touchdown pass to DJ Moore. The Bears won 22-16 on December 20, a game that later led to cheating accusations against the NFC North champions.

Saturday marks Williams’ first playoff game. The weather does not shake his confidence.

“I think I am built for these moments mentality wise how I’ve worked,” Williams said via NFL.com. “I’ve been in a bunch of big games before and a bunch of big rival games.”

He said he stays ready for any role. “Whether that’s stay in the pocket, whether that’s run, whether that’s scramble, whether that’s hand the ball off 30 times and be energetic about it,” Williams said. “Whatever it takes is where I’m at.”

The weather may slow the pace. It may change play calls. It may test patience. Still, the rivalry stays at its peak.
