Should Rams trade for Myles Garrett?
Myles Garrett isn’t beating around the bush. The star pass rusher took to social media on Monday to formally announce that he wants the Cleveland Browns to trade him. Will the Los Angeles Rams, ever active on the trade market for star players, be the ones to make it happen?
“With that in mind, I have requested to be traded by the Cleveland Browns,” wrote Garrett.
The Browns have insisted, even as of Monday, that they aren’t trading Garrett.
The 29-year-old former number one overall pick had 14 more sacks in 2024, bringing his career total to 102.5 in only eight seasons, all of which have been wasted in Cleveland. A first-team All-Pro in four of the last five years at a premium position, the trade offers for Garrett would have to start at two first round picks.
No player has been traded for a first round pick since 2022.
The Rams like trading for superstars. They did it plenty of times in Les Snead’s career as GM, culminating in trading two firsts and Jared Goff for Matthew Stafford in 2021. Trading for that number one pick turned out pretty well for the Rams.
Would the Rams be willing to send two first round picks and two second round picks (They don’t have a second rounder in 2025) to the Browns for Garrett? Even if they would, another team could easily beat them because L.A.’s first rounder this year is only 26th overall. That won’t be good enough to secure a star player. The Rams would have to include more than their first round pick, but any good players they could sacrifice might take them out of the running for the Super Bowl themselves.
Garrett wants out of Cleveland. The fact that he’s been with the Browns for this long shows how loyal he actually is.
