The Eagles won the Super Bowl with a great defensive line which will only increase Myles Garrett’s trade value or value to Browns
The Philadelphia Eagles raised the Lombardi Trophy Sunday night and the football world reacted by focusing on the value of a great defensive line. The Cleveland Browns spent the two weeks leading up to the Super Bowl dealing with their star defensive lineman, Myles Garrett, requesting a trade to a team that has a chance to play the final game of the season.
Whether the Browns give in to Garrett’s request or not, the contract details are important to note. So far, very few of the proposed trade packages for the former top overall pick have been much to get excited about for those around Cleveland.
Trading Garrett and trading down out of the second overall pick could help reshape the Browns roster quickly but it does not seem like that is the direction the team is thinking. According to Diana Russini, the team is a little dug in:
Meanwhile, Cleveland is playing hardball. Teams from both the NFC and AFC have been calling and the response from Cleveland’s front office? “We are not moving him… but stay tuned.”
Stay tuned for what? Russini notes that Garrett was very purposeful in his trip to New Orleans around the Super Bowl. That doesn’t mean the Browns are ready to budge.
Of note, FanDuel’s Candian sportsbook (they do not have Garrett trade prop bets available in the USA) has the best odds of the former Defensive Player of the Year ending up with the Washington Commanders at +320. The Las Vegas Raiders and Buffalo Bills follow slightly behind.
Given the odds, it seems like the market currently expects Garrett to remain in Cleveland. For a sportsbook, that is smart given that he is currently with the Browns and under contract for two more seasons.
The NFL combine is just a couple of weeks away. A lot happens there even if it isn’t supposed to. Perhaps we will have more fireworks at the league’s next big event.
