Cleveland Browns star defensive end Myles Garrett eagerly anticipates facing Aaron Rodgers, who recently signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, twice this upcoming season.

Garrett expressed his excitement by suggesting he’d like to retire the legendary quarterback permanently. Relax, though, the comments were made in jest.

“It’s a good opportunity to put him in the graveyard,” the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year quipped at Browns minicamp on Tuesday.

Garrett is referring to his Halloween tradition of displaying tombstones with the names of quarterbacks he has sacked. In 2021, for example, he set up seven gravestones in his front yard as part of the Halloween decorations.

Myles Garrett will get Two Opportunities to ‘Bury’ Aaron Rodgers

You know who wasn’t on Garrett’s front lawn in 2021? Aaron Rodgers. That season marks the only time the two have faced each other in their careers.

Rodgers and the Packers won 24-22, with the quarterback putting up very efficient numbers, including 202 yards and three touchdowns to no interceptions. Garrett, meanwhile, had zero tackles in the game but one assist.

Garrett, a six-time Pro Bowler, has sacked 31 quarterbacks in his career and is coming off a season with a solid 14 sacks.

Rodgers, now 41 years old, signed a one-year, $13.65 million deal with Pittsburgh, hoping to lead the team to a playoff berth after a challenging stint with the New York Jets.

The Browns will face the Steelers on October 12th and December 28th, setting the stage to up the ante in an already intense AFC North rivalry.

A Controversial Past

While clearly joking in this instance, Myles Garrett has had some controversial comments from his past. You might recall that Garrett ripped former Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph’s helmet off after a play had been completed during a game against Pittsburgh in November 2019. He then swung it at Rudolph’s head.

Garrett claimed that Rudolph had used an ill-advised phrase prior to the brawl.

Rudolph vehemently denied the accusation and was exonerated after the NFL investigated the incident and found no evidence to support Garrett’s accusation.

Garrett, though, has a good side as well, as evidenced by his interaction with Baltimore Ravens rookie offensive tackle Roger Rosengarten last year.

Garrett and Rosengarten engaged in a heartwarming moment captured during their game.
