Even in a world rooted in fiction, the Pittsburgh Steelers would be destined to ride things out with Aaron Rodgers.

In a seven-round fantasy-style mock draft put together by NFL.com’s Chad Reuter earlier this week, the draft analyst tabbed the four-time Associated Press NFL MVP as Mike McCarthy’s choice behind center.

“Rodgers is set to end his career with the Steelers,” Reuter wrote of the second-round pick, No. 44 overall. “Who am I to prevent that from happening?”

Twenty quarterbacks went before Rodgers. Malik Willis (Green Bay Packers, No. 45), Daniel Jones (No. 51, Indianapolis Colts), Michael Penix Jr. (No. 79, Atlanta Falcons) and Cam Ward (No. 93, Los Angeles Rams) heard their names called after.

DK Metcalf, the Steelers’ leader in receiving yards and touchdown grabs a season ago, landed with the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round (No. 140). However, Pittsburgh re-paired Rodgers with a familiar face in Davante Adams nine choices later.

“Reuniting Adams with close friend Aaron Rodgers in Pittsburgh could ignite a spark in both veterans to make one more run to the Super Bowl,” Reuter said.

The Steelers skipped over signal-caller with their first-round pick (No. 21), adding Detroit Lions edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson. T.J. Watt went to the Jacksonville Jaguars at No. 41 and Cam Heyward to the Las Vegas Raiders at No. 126.

Pittsburgh also took Los Angeles Rams cornerback Trent McDuffie (No. 85), Atlanta Falcons offensive tackle Jake Matthews (No. 108) and Denver Broncos safety Talanoa Hufanga (No. 172).

Steelers edge rushers Alex Highsmith (No. 177, Baltimore Ravens) and Nick Herbig (No. 178, Tampa Bay Buccaneers) went back-to-back in the sixth round. Defensive back Jalen Ramsey wound up with the Philadelphia Eagles (No. 215) in the seventh. Two picks earlier, the Steelers gave Rodgers another target

In the seventh round (No. 213), the Steelers gave Rodgers another target, Houston Texans tight end Dalton Schultz.
