More details have been revealed regarding the left wrist injury that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is expected to return from against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
The injury was initially described as a small fracture to his left wrist, but according to a report by NFL Network on Sunday, the injury is actually much more substantial. Rodgers has at least three fractures in the left wrist.
Despite that, he has insisted throughout that he would play through the injury. He reportedly wanted to return to the game after his initial injury in Week 11 against the Cincinnati Bengals and practiced in the week leading up to last week’s loss to the Chicago Bears before Mike Tomlin decided to hold him out.
This week, Tomlin was confident, even from moments after the loss to the Bears, that Rodgers would be able to play, and despite missing practice on Wednesday, he practiced on Thursday and Friday and is “all systems go” for this Sunday, Tomlin said on Friday.
“No designation for the game, so it’s all systems go,” Tomlin said. “Just more reps, certainly, but certainly, it’s another week so I’m sure there’s more comfort there, not only in him, but in the medical experts.”
Tomlin also said that Rodgers was able to take some snaps under center, something Rodgers said on Wednesday he had yet to do. A report by Sal Paolantonio of ESPN on Sunday revealed that Rodgers took relatively few snaps from under center this week. Rodgers said last week that he has played games primarily out of the pistol alignment in the past.
Jay Glazer of FOX reported that is the Steelers’ plan to help protect Rodgers’ wrist.
The Steelers plan to limit Aaron Rodgers' time under center today to protect his wrist, and the Browns are prepared to stick with Shedeur Sanders as starting QB. Also, how Bears HC Ben Johnson delivered free hot dogs to Chicago 😅@JayGlazer has the latest: pic.twitter.com/Vq4DqliTDZ
