Ben Johnson’s arrival in the Windy City has undeniably had a huge impact on the Chicago Bears.
In his first season as the NFC East franchise’s sideline boss, Johnson managed to steer the Bears to an 11-6 record — the most wins Chicago has had in a season since 2018, when the team went 12-4.
The Bears finished first in the division and also won in the NFL playoffs against their chief rivals, the Green Bay Packers.
For veteran pass rusher Montez Sweat, a lot of that success was because of Johnson, who spent several years with the Detroit Lions before getting hired by the Bears.
“Ben, I mean, he worked the s**t out of us,” Sweat told reporters on Wednesday when asked about the team’s difference-maker in 2025 (h/t CHGO Bears).
“We just was all I want a quarter. Everybody was on the same page and everything was just really about winning. If it wasn’t about winning, then it was non-existent,” added the one-time Pro Bowler.
But there is a considerable challenge awaiting Sweat, Johnson, and the Bears in the 2026 NFL season, and that is proving their success in 2025 was not a flash in the pan.
With quarterback Caleb Williams on the rise and Johnson looking just the right head coach for Chicago, the Bears have clear reasons to believe that better things are coming for them in 2026.
Chicago will kick off the new season on Sep. 13 on the road at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, to face Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers in Week 1.
