We’ve got a pair of Monday Night Football games as part of this doubleheader package, and it’s an actual good one!
At 4 pm PT, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers take on the Houston Texans in Houston’s home opener. The Bucs won their opener in a dramatic comeback on the road over the Atlanta Falcons, while the Texans dropped a low-scoring battle at the Los Angeles Rams. ABC and ESPN will simulcast this matchup as the “main” part of the twinbill.
With all due respect to two future Seattle Seahawks opponents, the real main event is at 7 pm PT on ESPN. The Los Angeles Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders are both 1-0, but the real reason to care is because Jim Harbaugh vs. Pete Carroll is back on the menu. It’s the first meeting between these coaches since the 2014 season, when the Seahawks beat the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 17-7 and mathematically eliminated Harbaugh’s squad from the playoffs. Harbaugh was donezo as SF head coach shortly thereafter.
Times have changed, most notably Harbaugh won a definitely clean national championship at Michigan and now is back in the NFL with the Chargers, while Carroll is in charge of the Raiders. We’ll also get a national TV look at Geno Smith as Raiders starter, and obviously we have other ex-Seahawks like Will Dissly (Chargers) and Jamal Adams (Raiders) as part of this game.
Enjoy the games!
