Led by Edgerrin Cooper, the Packers’ linebacker group could be more exciting this year than at any other point this century.
The Green Bay Packers are in the building. Training camp gets underway this week, and most if not all players have already arrived and gone through their physical exams. That mean that Mark Murphy’s tenure as Packers president & CEO is almost up, with him officially passing the torch to Ed Policy during the Shareholders Meeting on Friday.
It has been clear for some time that Policy would be the choice to succeed Murphy in Green Bay, and it is surely no surprise to those around him that he would eventually find himself in a major role like this at the head of an NFL team. After all, it’s basically the family business at this point.
But while Policy will focus on the off-the-field success of the Packers, it’s time for the players and coaches to get underway preparing to have on-field success. One position group that will be particularly worth watching this summer is the linebacker unit, which has a few new faces and a new coach.
With Edgerrin Cooper ready to build on his impressive rookie season, that unit could be the most fun linebacker group the Packers have had in a long, long time.

Depth is listed here as one of the team's strengths, as there are plenty of players up and down the roster who now have significant NFL experience. Some of those players -- wide receivers, in particular -- need to rise above disappointing 2024 seasons, however.
