Monday Cheese Curds: Early injury roundup

We’ll start this week’s Curds off with a personal anecdote. I’m not much of a preseason spectator, but on Friday night I found myself with rare plop time, so I decided to pull out my phone and check in on that night’s game between the Lions and the Falcons. What I was greeted with was an ambulance parked on the field, with the entirety of both teams taking a knee. That’s the first action I saw in the 2025 NFL season. Thankfully, the injured Lion, Morice Norris, is back with the team as of today. Not to make light of a terrible situation, but I remember thinking at the time, “ok, now football is back.”

In keeping with that spirit of brutal reality, here’s a rundown of some of the injuries that have cropped up for the Green Bay Packers as they make their way through the preseason and towards week one. We’ll skip some obvious ones and bottom-of-the-roster guys, as well.

WR Jayden Reed – As Justis Mosqueda wrote about on Saturday, the Packers’ top wide receiver from last season is currently in a walking boot.

S Zayne Anderson – I love to make jokes about the existence (or lack thereof) of Zayne Anderson just as much as the next person, but a knee injury for a guy who’s proven himself a good special teams player and reliable depth piece is not ideal.

WR Dontayvion Wicks – Wicks missed Saturday’s preseason game. This was no surprise to those following closely, as he’s been dealing with a calf issue for a couple weeks now. Apparently, breaks are just as hard to catch as footballs.

RB MarShawn Lloyd – Speaking of catching breaks, Lloyd, who spent nearly all of 2024 dealing with injuries, now has a groin issue. The clock is ticking for Lloyd to make himself available and show his value.

LB Quay Walker – In case you missed it, Walker recently had surgery on an ankle that did not heal properly after an injury last year. He’s currently a full participant in team activities, but it’s worth keeping in mind.

CB Nate Hobbs – Speaking of surgery, new addition Nate Hobbs decided to have a cleanout procedure on his knee, leaving his week 1 availability up for debate. Said LaFleur at a recent presser, “I’m not going to put a timetable on it (his return).”

S Xavier McKinney – The star safety is dealing with a lingering calf injury and is a candidate to miss the remainder of training camp. Unfortunately, that puts a question mark on his week 1 availability as well.

Other players nursing non-serious injuries include Rasheed Walker and Emanuel Wilson.
