MNF: Ravens vs Lions Game Thread
Gang Green Nation Gang Green Nation

Tonight we have a great Monday Night Football matchup. The Baltimore Ravens host the Detroit Lions in what could be a Super Bowl preview. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 8:15 p.m. EDT.

The Baltimore Ravens got off to a rough start this season, blowing a 15 point lead in the final four minutes and falling to the Buffalo Bills, 41 – 40. They got back on the right track last week, blowing out the Cleveland Browns, 41 – 17. The Ravens defense has not lived up to their historical standards in recent years. They are currently ranked dead last in the NFL in yards allowed. However, while the Ravens defense has struggled, the Ravens offense has developed into a lethal, nearly unstoppable force. Lamar Jackson has been playing at an MVP level for some time now, and the Ravens offense is a juggernaut. They rank 1st in the NFL in points scored per game this season after finishing 1st in yards and 3rd in points last season. Jackson is superb running and throwing the ball and the ageless Derrick Henry is a force to be reckoned with out of the backfield. This Ravens team will be a tough out every game this season, as long as they stay healthy.

The Detroit Lions, like the Ravens, got this season off on the wrong foot, getting dominated by the Green Bay Packers, 27 – 13, in their season opener. Last week they turned things around, blowing out the Chicago Bears, 52 – 21. After winning 15 games last season but getting knocked out in the divisional round of the playoffs, the Lions are looking to take the next step and advance deep into the playoffs, and perhaps to the Super Bowl, this season. With last year’s top scoring offense largely intact, the Lions are capable of matching the Ravens score for score if the game becomes a shootout. Two top NFL offenses, two top Super Bowl contenders, slugging it out on national television. This is as good as it gets early in the NFL season.

It’s the Ravens and the Lions on Monday Night Football. Enjoy the game everybody.
