Tonight we have an NFC North rivalry game in the first Monday Night Football game of the 2025 NFL season. The Chicago Bears host the Minnesota Vikings to close out the first week of the 2025 NFL season.
This matchup features two quarterback gurus and their young proteges. The Bears hired former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to be their new head coach this offseason. Johnson worked wonders with Jared Goff and the Lions offense the past few years. Now he takes on a new project, second year quarterback Caleb Williams, who was the first overall pick in the 2024 draft. With a plethora of offensive weapons to target and Ben Johnson to provide guidance and structure, the hope is Williams will develop into the franchise quarterback the Bears envisioned when they drafted him.
The Vikings have their own offensive guru in Kevin O’Connell as their head coach, and their own 2024 first round pick to develop at quarterback in J.J. McCarthy. O’Connell famously developed Sam Darnold into an MVP candidate last season after years of struggling in the NFL. Now O’Connell hopes to replicate that process with McCarthy, whom the Vikings like enough to dump Darnold after just one season.
Both of these teams have been chasing the dominant Detroit Lions in recent years. With the Lions perhaps taking a step back after losing both their offensive and defensive coordinators in the offseason, both these teams hope to make a run at a division title this season. They start that quest slugging it out against each other tonight.
It’s the Bears and the Vikings tonight on Monday Night Football. Enjoy the game everybody.
