The Minnesota Vikings’ team plane had to make an emergency landing after departing for New Jersey on Saturday night.

J.J. McCarthy and the 6-8 Minnesota Vikings visit the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium on Sunday (1:00 p.m. EST). The Vikings, however, encountered some scary flight troubles shortly after takeoff.

According to ESPN’s Kevin Seifert, the Vikings’ team plan suffered “mechanical issues” after takeoff and had to retreat to the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The team took a separate plane at 8:25 EST, bound for Newark, according to Seifert.

Thankfully, nobody was harmed on the emergency landing.

The Vikings have already been eliminated from playoff contention. But struggling starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy is trying to finish the season on a high note, and he’s got the prime opportunity to put up a big game against a lousy two-win Giants team.

Minnesota Vikings Can Still Finish With A Winning Season

The Vikings can’t make the playoffs. But they can still finish with a third winning season in four seasons, should Kevin O’Connell’s group manage to win out.

Minnesota should be able to take care of the Giants on Sunday night. After that, they host the struggling Detroit Lions on Christmas Day before wrapping up the season at home against the Green Bay Packers in Week 18.

Winning out would put Minnesota at 9-8 on the year. That’s no small feat, given their injuries and struggles behind center.
