Minnesota Vikings Have No Clue Who Starting QB Will Be in Week 7

The Minnesota Vikings are on a bye this week, getting some much-needed rest, especially for quarterbacks J.J. McCarthy and Carson Wentz. McCarthy has been sidelined since he suffered an ankle sprain in Week 2.

When McCarthy was initially injured, the belief was that he’d be ready to return for the Vikings’ Week 7 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. That may no longer be the case.

Meanwhile, Wentz briefly had to leave Minnesota’s Week 5 win over the Browns after suffering a shoulder injury. Wentz was able to return to the game after halftime, but there’s no guarantee he’ll be ready to return to action next Sunday either.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, McCarthy’s ankle still is not back to 100%. As for Wentz, Pelissero said he “could be limited in practice” this week.

This morning, @TomPelissero reports that JJ McCarthy's ankle is not 100% yet and that the QB situation entering week 7 is "murky, to say the least"… 👀😵‍💫

With Wentz and McCarthy’s status both being up in the air, the Vikings may determine that they have to roll with the healthiest one available against the Eagles. If the game were played today, undrafted rookie Max Brosmer just might be the healthiest one available, but the other Vikings QBs will have six more days to heal up in time for next Sunday’s matchup.

Wentz has led the Vikings to a 2-1 record, and McCarthy has gone 1-1 as a starter thus far. In a perfect world, the Vikings would get McCarthy back on the field, and he’ll be more proactive than he was in his first two starts.

Wentz is getting rid of the ball in just 2.55 seconds, the second-quickest in the NFL behind Aaron Rodgers. McCarthy was getting the ball out in an average of 3.15 seconds, the second-longest in the league. Of course, now that the Vikings have gotten Christian Darrisaw back in the lineup, McCarthy could feel much more comfortable in the pocket.
