We’ve made it through the first quarter at Ford Field in Detroit, with the Minnesota Vikings leading the Detroit Lions by a score of 14-7.

The Lions got the football first after the Vikings won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. The Vikings gave up a couple of quick first downs on the Lions’ first two plays, but eventually forced a 4th-and-4 that the Lions went for at the Minnesota 40-yard line. The Vikings then forgot to cover Sam LaPorta, who connected with Jared Goff for a 40-yard touchdown to give the home team a quick 7-0 lead.

The Vikings tried to answer back, starting with a big 61-yard kickoff return from Myles Price (without a penalty) that started them at the Detroit 36-yard line. After a nice third-down conversion from J.J. McCarthy to Aaron Jones, McCarthy found the best wide receiver in the NFL as he connected with Justin Jefferson for a 10-yard touchdown to tie things at 7-7.

The Vikings’ defense forced a three-and-out on Detroit’s next possession, which is significant in and of itself, given what we saw against Los Angeles. Then, the Vikings marched down the field again, with McCarthy hitting a big third-down pass to Jordan Addison to set up first-and-goal, and then finding T.J. Hockenson for a 7-yard touchdown to put the Vikings ahead, 14-7.

The Lions got out to midfield on their next possession, but Eric Wilson took Goff down for a sack on third down to force another punt, with a penalty on the kick putting the Vikings inside their own 10-yard line. As we move to the second quarter, the Vikings are looking at a 2nd-and-9 from their own 8-yard line.

It’s been an eventful first quarter in Detroit, with the Minnesota Vikings holding a 14-7 lead over the Detroit Lions. Come join us for the second quarter of play!
