We’re heading to the second quarter at Soldier Field, and our Minnesota Vikings are trailing the Chicago Bears by a score of 7-0 on Monday Night Football.
The Vikings got the ball first after the Bears won the coin toss and chose to defer to the second half, meaning that the J.J. McCarthy era got started right away. The young quarterback completed his first pass to Josh Oliver, but his second dropback did not go as well, as he was sacked to make it a three-and-out.
On the Bears’ first drive, Williams had quite a bit of time to get comfortable and completed his first four passes to push into Minnesota territory. Williams then converted a third down on a long pass to Rome Odunze to put the Bears into the red zone, and on the next third down Williams found nothing open so he took it himself, running in for a 9-yard touchdown to give the home team an early 7-0 lead.
The Vikings got the football back. . .and they went three-and-out with McCarthy getting sacked on third down for the second consecutive drive. The Minnesota defense forced the Bears to punt it away, and the ensuing punt put the purple down at their own 19-yard line with under one minute left in the quarter.
As we move to the second quarter of play, the Vikings are looking at 1st-and-10 from their own 31-yard line after a pair of carries from Jordan Mason picked up the initial first down of the season for the Minnesota offense.
One quarter in the books from Chicago, and the Vikings trail the Bears by a score of 7-0. Come on in and join us for the second quarter of play!
