The New England Patriots picked up their fifth-straight win when they took down the Cleveland Browns in Week 8, with the final score settling in at 32-13. Several guys had big outings for the Pats, but one guy who had a fairly muted day (at least on the stat sheet) was defensive tackle Milton Williams.
After signing a massive four-year, $104 million contract with New England in free agency over the offseason, expectations were high for Williams in his first season with his new team. So far, he has delivered the goods, but he was quiet against the Browns, as he had just one tackle and one pass deflection on the day.
When considering the fact that Williams spent most of his day getting double-teamed by the Browns’ offensive line, though, his limited production makes a bit more sense. Williams didn’t seem to mind too much, though, as a new clip showed him urging his teammates to step up if Cleveland was going to keep sending double teams his way.
“If they just gonna double me, cook,” Williams said on the sidelines during New England’s latest win.
The Patriots only managed to sack Dillon Gabriel once, but the run defense was once again suffocating, and with the secondary holding things down on the backend, it resulted in another strong outing for the team’s defense as a whole.
Even when he’s not putting up big numbers, the attention Williams commands on every single play opens things up for the rest of his teammates. Williams will look to continue his strong start to his tenure with the Pats in Week 9 when they take on the Atlanta Falcons.
