The New England Patriots suffered a 21-14 loss in crushing fashion to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3 on Sunday, as they committed a mind-boggling five turnovers, which surely infuriated head coach Mike Vrabel.
As it turns out, the highlight of the weekend came on Saturday, when former head coach Bill Parcells and wide receiver Julian Edelman were officially inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame.
The ceremony for both Parcells and Edelman went well, with many fans being excited to see both guys back in Foxboro. During the game on Sunday, Edelman was honored again in front of the Foxboro faithful with a brief ceremony.
On Saturday, Edelman, who is blessed with the gift of gab, had a pretty long speech. When Vrabel saw Edelman ahead of New England’s game on Sunday, he reminded him that halftime is only 13 minutes long, meaning he needed to shorten his speech quite a bit.
“That was really nice, yeah, that was well done, both of those guys,” Vrabel said of the induction ceremony on Saturday. “I told Jules before the game, I saw him as I was walking out, I said, ‘Hey, remember, halftime is only 13 minutes long, OK? So if you’ve got a speech, halftime is only 13 minutes.’ But I thought both of them did a really good job.”
Considering how guys like Edelman, Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum, and Boston Red Sox youngsters Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer were in attendance for this game, it’s a shame that Edelman’s shorter ceremony was one of the better moments of the day.
There were things the Patriots did on the field that were encouraging, but at the end of the day, a loss is a loss. New England will look to get back on track when it returns to action in Week 4 with a matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
