The New England Patriots improved to 11-2 with a 33-15 lopsided win over the New York Giants on Monday.
New England is the first team in the NFL to 11 wins and enters their bye week atop the AFC. In the win, Drake Maye was stellar again as he went 24-of-31 for 282 yards and three touchdowns.
Throughout the game, Patriots fans were chanting MVP at Maye, and head coach Mike Vrabel was pleased with the sophomore quarterback’s composure.
“I think he’s able to keep his composure, keep his eyes downfield,” Vrabel said postgame on Monday. “I thought some of the best plays, I think, are just the extensions, the scramble for a first down, the scramble and to stay in bounds there late in the game. Knowing the situation forces them to call a timeout.
“And then not throwing an incompletion there at the end of the game and scramble unselfishly — he probably could have said, ‘Hey, I’m going to try to throw a touchdown, and go and slide and use the clock.’ Those are the things that probably don’t show up on the stat sheet. I thought being accurate downfield and being able to give Kayshon a real catchable ball there in the end zone was nice, too.”
With another stellar performance, Maye is now the -135 favorite to win MVP.
Maye has thrown for 3,412 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions this season for the Patriots and is a key reason why New England is atop the AFC.
The Patriots are now on their bye week and will host the Buffalo Bills in Week 15 on Dec. 14.
