Christian Gonzalez sustained a hamstring injury during training camp, which kept him out of the New England Patriots’ first two games, but he could be seeing playing time very soon.
Mike Vrabel told the media that Gonzalez will return to the practice field on Wednesday.
“I would expect him to do some stuff today at practice,” Vrabel said on Wednesday about Gonzalez.
There is a chance Gonzalez could play on Sunday, and Vrabel responded “Sure” when asked if Gonzalez might play this week.
The Patriots are going to need Gonzalez when they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is one of the best in NFL history and has been able to tear apart secondaries for almost two decades.
New England allowed 362 passing yards to Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Geno Smith in Week 1, and it gave up 315 passing yards to Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa last week.
Smith and Tagovailoa are not on the same level as Rodgers. If they were able to perform well against the Patriots’ secondary without Gonzalez, Rodgers could potentially have one of his best games of the season this Sunday if Gonzalez is unable to play.
