As the Steelers minicamp concluded, head coach Mike Tomlin spoke to reporters on Thursday and highlighted conditioning and health going into training camp.

**PITTSBURGH–**After the Pittsburgh Steelers wrapped up minicamp on Thursday, the offseason closed. Now, the team’s attention has turned to preparing for training camp. Players are scheduled to report on July 23rd. Head coach Mike Tomlin spoke to the media on Thursday, indicating that conditioning and health are good heading into training camp.

In previous seasons, the Steelers came into training camp with key injuries. Last year, newly acquired Russell Wilson injured his calf in opening workouts. In 2023, Cam Heyward had a lingering groin injury. Even in 2022, lead-back Najee Harris had a Lisfranc injury that lingered into the year.

While Tomlin spoke positively of the work and conditioning thus far, he also addressed the team’s health. “[There are] no injuries worth mentioning or things that could slow down our progress in terms of reporting to football camp.” He told reporters.

Once the final horn sounded on Thursday, players and coaches departed. They have worked through OTA’s and mandatory minicamps with a brief break. For Tomlin, the work is only beginning.

“Today concludes our offseason in an official way, but certainly there’s more work to be done,” Tomlin told reporters after the final minicamp. “We just really kind of laid the foundation through this work for 2025.”

While OTA’s and minicamps are crucial for team development, for the head coach, it’s more about getting into football shape. Tomlin told reporters, “We emphasize things like physical conditioning, preceding anything else.”

The biggest difference is on the horizon as camp in Latrobe draws near. The intensity, heat, and competition will only ramp up.

“This was a football-like environment,” Tomlin said of OTA’s and minicamp. “When we get to Latrobe, it’s gonna be a football environment.”

The Steelers are notorious for having some of the most physical training camps in the league. Drills like back-on-backers emphasize the early integration of physicality. Regardless, Tomlin told reporters that he appreciates the work of the team building thus far.

“This work has been good, but we measure the quality of this work … how it teases up for the real football journey that awaits.” He told reporters.

While this portion of the offseason can be seen as a warm-up, it is a good sign to see the team relatively healthy. It will be needed as they approach a challenging 2025 season–starting in training camp.
